Australia Day Competition Results :-
Celebrating Australia Day at Tathra with The Tathra Bowlo Fishing Comp
The President of the Tathra Beach Bowling Club, Mr. Gerry Lay was on hand to present the prizes for the largest fish of different species caught following a successful Tathra Amateur Fishing club two-day competition. The Bowlo has supported the Fishing Club since its charter in the early sixties and President Peter Fitzer told the crowd how much the club depends on this to be able to run the competition which has evolved to become not only a traditional fishing competition but a time when Club members from all over Australia can get together and catch up. Peter thanked Gerry and his current Board for continuing this tradition.
Seas on Australia Day were perfect for fishing with a number of boats venturing out to the “shelf’ however the cash prize sponsored by ID Dickson for the largest albacore over 10 Kg remains unclaimed. As happens with fishing the fish were on the bite, early on the Saturday morning before a nasty weather change saw boats return early to the safety of Kianinniny Bay.
Young Josie Potter won both the Senior & Junior Dusky Flathead category, Graham Moll retained his heaviest Morwong title and river stalwarts Hans Cremerius and Rob Wilkins took out the Tailor and Bream prizes.
Following the final weigh-ins at 1pm a barbeque was enjoyed by the crowd, as Gerry Lay presented the cash prizes to the following.
